Cataloochee Valley - Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Cataloochee Valley is often considered one of the most beautiful and remote locations in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. A visit to Cataloochee Valley sends you back in time. Tour the historic structures of this late 19th & early 20th century settlement, while enjoying one of many scenic hikes. You are likely to see the Elk, who were reintroduced to the park in 2001. Buzzard’s Roost, Harmon Den, & Hurricane Creek - Pisgah National Forest
See the Smokies from a different perspective - Pisgah National Forest offers some of the best gravel roads and off-road/4x4 areas in Western North Carolina.
Buzzard’s Roost, located in the Harmon Den area, is an unmaintained overlook providing long range views as well as views of “the gorge”. Located off F.S. 288, you can access directly from our property via the “goat trail” or via the Cataloochee Turnpike.
Harmon Den also appeals to hikers and horseback riders and is home to the famous Max Patch. Max Patch is known for 360 degree views and incredible sunrises and sunsets.
Hurricane Creek, a popular 4x4 trail spanning 6 miles, provides elevation gain, mud, rocks, water crossing, and some off-camber sections. Enjoyed by 4x4 drivers and UTV drivers alike!
Pigeon River
Recreational rafting & paddling on the Pigeon River is a popular in two sections of the river close to our property, the Upper Pigeon River and the Lower Pigeon River. Outfitters in Hartford, TN (8 miles from the property) guide both sections. The Upper section begins at the Waterville Power Station (located right on the North Carolina/Tennessee border, just 3 miles from camp) and features Class III-IV whitewater rapids. The Lower section offers more of a leisure adventure and swim breaks. Either way, rafting is a welcomed adventure on Summer days!
Appalachian Trail
Enjoy hiking the iconic Appalachian Trail (AT). Connect to the trail via the Big Creek and Low Gap Trails, or enter the AT four (4) miles from the property on Waterville Rd where Tobes Creek drains into the Pigeon River.
Martha Sundquist State Forest - Tennessee
The Martha Sundquist State Forest is a wildlife management area offering recreation in Tennessee approximately 10 miles from the property. A relatively new State Forest, this is a great place to enjoy hunting, fishing, and gravel trails! Martha Sundquist State Forest information
